A New Photography Project…
Inspiration has arrived (again) and I’ve started a new project, the first instalment is… Photographing doorways. Yes, before you ask, I do have an anorak!
Seriously, I was inspired by a visit to Dunkirk in France, where the rather eclectic mix of sea-facing doorways took my interest as I wandered down the seafront on a rather grey and sombre afternoon, and I thought, “what could I photograph that was more interesting than seagulls in leaden skies”? Erm, doorways was the answer. Doors into houses, cafes, restaurants, garages and storage facilities under bridges, all became the target of my lens. Of course, it was not the most obvious thing to start with but as I started to look more closely at the eclectic mix of doors on just two streets, (the Digue de Mer and Digue de Allies, both right on the seafront) I discovered an amazingly variable set of doors that mean now, well, now wherever I go somewhere urban-ish, I’m snapping doorways.
Either way, whether you find my inspiration a tad boring or something that might just (ahem!) open a photographic doorway for you, I hope you enjoy this first instalment of my new project more images of which can be found by following this “Doorways” link on the project page. Should any of you have suggestions for great-looking doors to photograph, by all means leave a comment (or sign up to my blog) and let me know and make sure you watch out for future instalments, as I once again dust down my “doorways anorak” and get snapping.
